Belize by Bus

The bus system in Belize is fairly developed and an inexpensive. For example the 1 hour bus ride from Belmopan to Belize City cost 4$BZ. There are express and non-express buses available. Generally you want the express bus unless you are getting on or off outside of a scheduled stop. There are 2 stops in Belize City, one at a stop near the edge of town and another at the main bus terminal downtown. The best way around town is using taxis. Taxis are identifiable by their green license plates, sometimes that is the only identifier.

Belize IV - Week III

What is fascinating in Belize is the open sewers. They do not flow anymore except maybe to carry rain in the wet season. There is now a modern underground sewer system but walking around the old sections of town is truly interesting. Took a lot of photographs of the different types and junctions. Wonder if they actually flow in periods of strong rain it would be very interesting to see.

Belize III - The Second Week

Today I managed to get a cell phone. Cheaped out and got a 100$ model but probably should have sprung for the 150$ BZ model. The phone I have is sorta hard to use however it came with an FM radio (!). The FM radio is my only portal to culture here. There is no cable TV available at the new place, it has been blacklisted by the cable company for some reason.

Belize Part II - Day 2

House hunting is decidedly more miss than hit. Property managers that are 60 miles away from the properties and unfindable residences.

Belize Part 1 - The Blue Promised Land

Belize is the only English-speaking country in Central America. It is part of the British Commonwealth much like Canada and Australia which has given it a bit of nest when it comes to developing nations. It borders on the south of Mexico and shares a western border with Guatemala. Honduras lies to the south. It is around a 2 hour flight from Houston and has similar weather to Mexico.
